The Fall Festival & Art Season Is Rolling In

I participated in the Ocean Springs Art Walk last week.  It was a great success even though we had just came through a small Hurricane named Isaac.  Once September hits time just flies.  Lots of charity event for the arts and community hold their balls at this time.  The fall art festival season starts with art walk and then the big event is the Peter Anderson Festival.  I made some real fun browse bins for my shows using some boxes I recycled then primed with gesso before painting and decorating with things I had around the house.  They were super fun to make and cost very little since most of the materials were recycled items.  I also had a wonderful junior artist as my assistant.  My host each year for this event is Lee Tracy boutique in Downtown Ocean Springs.

"Brandie She's A Fine Girl...but my love, my life and my lady is the sea"

I am dedicating this post to my oldest and dearest friend, Brandie Dickerson.  She is in a new expansion phase of her business "Brandie Dickerson Designs".  It is really fun to see you and your friends growing and  moving in the direction of our dreams.  Today I am going to share some of her latest designs and career networking highlights of the year.  Brandie, this ones for you baby, the sky is the limit!

Nautilus

I have just finished work on my latest piece , "Nautilus".  If the truth be told I am always working on more than one piece at any one time.  This particular piece has been about three different paintings or shall I say "I had intentions for it to be two different things".  First it was going to be the Golden Fisherman and then a lion fish.  I am sure one day I will get the Golden Fisherman painted, the question is when?  We will see.  This work is available for purchase.  If I don't sell it this week, I think I am going to enter it into the SRRA spring art show.  I would love to sell it, but I would also like to put it in the show.  I guess only time will tell.  When I began this painting it started out as an abstract of gold, bronze, nickel azo and burnt red orange.  As it progresses I utilized some negative shade painting techniques.  They say every great painting was an abstract at some time.  This 30 x 48 acrylic on canvas would look stunning in a beach front condo or beach house.

Spring HAS Sprung!!!

I have been painting these fun fish pots.    They are fun little garden pots that have their own attitude.  It has been different painting on a round surface.    The boy pots have big monster teeth and the girl pots have big lips.  This is my favorite time of year.  I love all the beautiful blooms.  A little tip if you want to paint terra cotta pots, seal them inside and out to ensure your art stays on the pot!Boy Pot

Lets get this party started!!!

Paint party that is.  Who's invited: me myself and I.  The baby just went down for his afternoon nap so I am going to make some art.  Time just seems to get away from me.  It was just August and I was getting ready for the Peter Anderson Festival which came and went.  The Holidays just flew by and now its carnival season.  I have a lot of commissions to do for Mardi Gra, thank God.  It's nice to have work.  They say in art it's either feast or famine and since the famine seamed long I am very grateful for the feast.  I am going to get started with some warm up painting for fun.  It really is all about the fun....Todays color palette: Mustard, Purple and Turquoise.  Its my new favorite color combination.

Happy New Year and New Art!

Happy New Year friends!  I hope this year will be full of new opportunities to make more fun art.  I have spent most of today practicing a new technique on some abandon pieces of work.  Some times its hard to find that one thing to make it right.  Right in your eyes that is.  I love painting and I wish that there were more hours in the day to do it.  Time with no interruptions and the right mental state.  If your in a hurry, stressed or not focused, just go ahead and step back.  I looked at a few paintings I started today when it was just not flowing and I still am not ready to fix them.  That day will come, they all ways do.  You just never know when that might be.  You just have to take your opportunities as they come and make the most of them- In live, love, and art.
